What is life coaching?

What is life coaching? Life coaching is an effective practical method of helping people TRANSITION and ACHIEVE LIFE GOALS. Coaching is not therapy, but in its best form, it is a process that considers and works with the WHOLE PERSON. Thus, the most effective life coaches are HOLISTIC by nature. As your TRANSITION and HOLISTIC LIFE COACH, I will partner with you in a individually tailored process of guided self-discovery and self-improvement that considers “THE WHOLE YOU”, the complete you. Whether you seek to find a career, change careers, retire, feel more well, or simply acquire new skills, I will guide and assist you in your personal journey toward achieving your highest level of potential and fulfillment.

My HOLISTIC LIFE COACH process:

  • Considers you as a whole person with multiple inter-related dimensions
  • Follows a positive and supportive course
  • Builds insight and awareness of personal strengths, needs, and values
  • Finds and reviews helpful resources
  • Determines objectives and goals for positive personal change
  • Develops action plans for achieving objectives and goals
  • Systematically follows through with productive action
  • Evaluates and acknowledges results

Piloting an airplane is a process of transition from one place to another, not unlike many other important transitions on which our lives depend. For me, the life-dependent process of piloting an aircraft has served as a wonderful role model for my life’s transitions. If I apply that model to my LIFE TRNSITIONS COACHING, it might look something like this:

In order to TRANSITION through time and space as a pilot, I need a MAP, a DESTINATION,
and the ability to SOAR

To make a successful transition in life you also need:
M
Me! (meaning you) What defines you? Who are you? How did you become you?
A
Attributes and Assets! Attributes and Assets! What are your strengths? What can you capitalize on?
P
Priorities! What’s most important to you in your life? What really matters?

DESTINATION
Where do you want to go?
What is your ultimate goal?

S
Strategy! How are you going to get to your destination? What do you need to get there?
O
Objectives! What are your waypoints? What are the steps to your destination?
A
Action Plan! What specific actions are needed to achieve your objectives?
R
RESULTS! What have you achieved? Have your arrived? How well have you done?

Who uses a HOLISTIC LIFE COACH?

“Coaching” has it roots in the large corporate business arena, but many people discovered the values of coaching beyond the corporate office, hence the word "life". Today, individuals seek coaching services that include many personal as well as professional issues including everything from career issues to health and fitness, hence the need for HOLISTIC LIFE COACHING. Coaches usually focus their services in rather specific areas of personal or professional issues. For example, many coaches specialize in business or real estate coaching. Some specialize in personal issues such as marriage and family problems. Others might specialize as spiritual guides and mentors. As you consider selecting a life coach, it is important that you work with someone who offers expertise that match your needs, but also considers you as a complete, WHOLE PERSON. Thus, a HOLISTIC LIFE COACH is more likely to help you achieve your goal(s) because his/her coaching strategy positively focuses all of your personal resources – physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual - in the action plan to achieve your goal(s).

How does coaching work?

Life coaching is not therapy, nor is a life coach a therapist. I partner with the you in a practical process utilizing individualized approaches to addressing your goal(s) as a WHOLE PERSON. The primary purpose of our first coaching session will be to familiarize myself with you and your personal objectives. Thus, I will help you build whole self-awareness and insight to help us identify specific issues. We will then develop significant goals personalized for you with specific objectives for achieving those goals. Finally, I will help you develop an action plan, and we, together, will commit to a follow-through strategy.

Coaching sessions usually last forty-five minutes to an hour. Sessions may be conducted in person or via the telephone. It is not necessary for my office to be near you. Indeed, most coaching sessions are conducted via the telephone. Email is a very useful tool in sharing information, passing along forms, and making progress reports.

What services are included?

One-on-one coaching sessions via the telephone or in person are the primary service of my personal life coaching. Once signed on as a client, I use email communications between sessions for ‘homework’ reminders, to answer questions, to pass along forms and questionnaires, and to offer selected readings and/or other helpful information. I will also direct you to information resources including reading materials, audio/video, websites, and television programs.

I also offer group sessions for specific topics such as career or retirement transitions.
